Valentine's Day as I see it...

I am sure you have wondered why we celebrate Valentine's Day and that the question of, "Is it really htat important?" has crossed your mind. Why do we celebrate Valentine's Day? It is a widely celebrated and universal holiday. Even here in Africa the grocery store had displays of boquets of roses and the "seasonal candy and treat table" was set up weeks before our calendars were turned to the month of February. But why do this? Is it really worth building up the suspense and anticipation? Is February 14th really any different from any other day? As I see it Valentine's Day is a holiday with more fun behind it than there is meaning. Afterall, do we really love people anymore on this day. Do we not just simply show our love in more (or better) ways on this day? Don't get me wrong, I love this day...I love to make Valentine's Day cards and surprise people with some sweet sentiment, but I think that in all reality this holiday is over-rated. We should love those who are in our lives on a daily basis and should not use Valentine's Day as the only day in which we show that love and appreciaiton for them. Who says we can't get up ealrly to make someone breakfast on some other day of the year? Why can't we show how much we value those we live with by hosting special candle light dinners throughout the year? We can't put our love for others in a box, wating to give it to them in the form of chocolates, cards, flowers or special outings, on Valentine's Day! Our love should be overflowing and evident on a daily basis!
