A Moment of Fame

Have you ever had the feeling that someone was talking about you, watching you, pointing at you and maybe even laughing at you? You check to see if your fly is down...You check the mirror to see if there is something on your face...You even ask your friends if there is something that you should know about that you just can't seem to figure out...But even after careful examination of yourself, you can't figure out what it is about you that seems to be so eye-catching and worthy of the attention that only celebreties or people of fame should receive. Well, today was the day in which I felt the exact same way. However, eventually I was able to discover what it was about me that would cause these young kids of 3 or 4 (above) to come running towards me, pointing and yelling "Ke Bona magkoowa! Ke Bona makgoowa! Ke Bona makgoowa!" My white skin was all it took for me to be a celebrity today...and I received royal treatment! As you can see on these boys' faces that even despite their initial excitement, the moment I stepped out of the car, it was like a wave of fear went over them. A white person actually wanting to play with them must have seemed a bit too out of the ordinary for comfort. But soon enough they were laughing, playing (showing-off) and even making trouble all in an attempt to entertain us. As much as I did not wish to condone their misbehaviour in an attempt to entertain, I couldn't help but laugh. Before long, I wanted to take them all home with me...even though they were wet and muddy after finding great enjoyment in playing in the rain puddle and drinking the water too! Oh, the great lengths they went just to entertain me...I felt like a celebrity! And in this case it didn't take much to become famous and, in all reality, I wasn't even looking for it...I was born with it...white skin was all it took!
